Note* Having a diagnosis doesn’t automatically mean someone qualifies for a service dog. It’s really about whether your condition makes everyday activities much harder. Everyone’s situation is different, and that’s okay. What matters most is finding what works best for you—there’s no right or wrong way to navigate life with a disability.

How CSD Works with You

At Coastal Service Dogs, we guide you through every step of the journey to ensure our programs align with your needs and lifestyle. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Submit Your Application

Start by completing our easy-to-follow online application to share your disabilities and goals.

Step 2: Eligibility Check

We’ll confirm that you meet the program requirements:

  • Age: Applicants must be 13 years or older (parent/guardian support required for those under 18).
  • Location: Permanent U.S. residency is required.
  • Purpose: You must have a disability that can be mitigated by a medical alert, medical response, psychiatric assistance, or mobility service dog. (Note: We do not train Guide or Hearing Assistance dogs.)

Step 2a: Dog Evaluation (For Applicants With a Dog)

If you already have a dog, we’ll evaluate them virtually or in person to ensure they’re a good fit for training. You are still going to need to complete the online application first.

Step 3: Call with Coastal Trainer

Speak directly with a trainer to review your application, ask questions, and discuss your training goals.

Step 4: Review Agreement and Payment Options

We’ll send you a customized agreement along with flexible payment options.

Step 5: Finalize Enrollment

Sign your agreement, complete payment, and get ready to begin your program—or start the puppy search with our Puppy Match Service.

Step 6: Begin Your Journey

Dive into your training program with access to certified trainers, tailored plans, and our resources like the Coastal Learning Hub. Whether you’re focusing on foundational skills or task training, we’ll support you every step of the way.
